A family repair shop trades a full day of payroll for 15 minutes
Bob’s Truck Care partnered with Insperity to turn a manual, desk-bound payroll process into a fast, flexible routine—reclaiming up to five hours every week and giving a busy owner the freedom to run payroll from anywhere.

The Challenge
- Manual payroll consumed 4–6 hours each week—nearly a full workday
- Previous accounting platform required many manual steps and hands-on tax payments
- No mobility—payroll had to be run from a desk
- Commission-based and flat-rate pay added real complexity
The Solution
- Insperity® HRCore™ solution automated payroll and weekly tax payments
- A simple, fully virtual setup completed in about three months
- Mobile access to run payroll from any location
- HR resources, disciplinary and termination templates, and employee handbook support
The Result
- Payroll now takes about 15 minutes—45 at most when issues arise
- 4–5 hours returned each week for client visits and operations
- A responsive partner, typically available within hours
- Better work-life balance for a hands-on owner
“Now I can just log in through the website, run payroll, and get on with my day.”
Fred Floyd Jr.
Owner
Bob’s Truck Care
Not far from the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Fred Floyd Jr. owns and operates his third-generation family business, Bob’s Truck Care, along with his wife and parents.
Started by his grandfather in 1975 in Pasadena, Texas, Bob’s Truck Care offers full-service automotive repair at one shop and two mobile repair service truck divisions that cover all of Texas and most of Houston. With his parents in their 60s, day-to-day duties have been largely handed over to him.
As of early 2026, Bob’s Truck Care employs 25 full-time and part-time employees, all based out of Pasadena, TX. Bob’s uses the Insperity HRCore™ solution for payroll for all of its employees, and it’s enabled Fred Floyd Jr. to make the process as painless as possible.
Discovery
Extending the family connection a step further, in early 2022, Floyd’s sister-in-law, who works in sales at Insperity, explained some of the things the company does.
Frustrated with its previous accounting platform, he wanted to see if Insperity HRCore could work for him.
The problem: manual, immovable, and scaling poorly
From the get-go, Floyd’s experience with his previous solution “was a very manual process.” Each payroll run, he had to go in afterward and pay state and federal taxes. “There were a lot of steps that I had to do to complete payroll,” he explained. “And I was really tired of that.”
As the sole person gathering time and pay information and running payroll at Bob’s Truck Care, Floyd knew there was more advanced technology out there, and he wanted something that could automate more of his work.
While there were some physical timecards and unique jobs to track as part of the business’s payroll, the primary issue was that it took him four to six hours per week to complete payroll. This was nearly (and often) a full workday lost per week to running payroll with no mobile capabilities and many steps to get the job done. “I had to be at my office and at my desk to run payroll,” he recalls.
As the business grew, it became increasingly difficult for him to be stuck at his desk one day a week handling payroll. Despite some unique payroll challenges for his business, such as tracking commission-based and flat-rate jobs performed by some mechanics, the work didn’t require as much time as he ultimately spent on payroll.
The sales process and implementation
Floyd met with his sister-in-law to get an overview of the products Insperity offers and discussed how they’ve successfully worked with businesses similar to his.
Setting up and getting going on Insperity was a pretty easy process, according to Floyd—“Just a few phone calls” with sales representatives—perfect for someone like him who had other things to worry about. The entire implementation process took about three months to complete and was completely virtual.
The payroll experience: from half a day to 15 minutes
Soon, he was running payroll in Insperity HRCore on his own. “It went super smooth,” he said. “These days I can run payroll and be done with it in about 15 minutes—at the most 30-45 minutes if there are issues.”
For someone who had spent nearly an entire workday on payroll each week, Insperity has given Fred Floyd Jr. four to five hours back in his week. Those benefits are already huge for a small business owner.
Insperity also pays the weekly payroll taxes for Bob’s Truck Care, and although he’s still manually tracking some projects and commission-based work, Floyd now has an office manager helping him with time management and verification.
While payroll has been the primary boon to Bob’s Truck Care, the Insperity HRCore resources and templates for disciplinary action or termination have been “nice to have even if you don’t need it.”
Insperity has also helped him develop an employee handbook, which is something he didn’t have before, and they help him keep it up to date.
In terms of response times, Insperity is always on hand, typically responding within a few hours to 24 hours. If a person is on vacation, there’s always someone else who can respond, but he generally deals with the same person.
What he does with the time back
With nearly a full workday saved, Floyd spends it visiting clients and overall just “getting the time back.”
The flexibility and low impact of Insperity HRCore have even allowed him to run payroll while on vacation.
